At LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, our people make the difference! Learn more about one of our remarkable brokers, Jaima Giles, in her personal Q&A.

How long have you been in the real estate industry for? I’ve been living in Crested Butte for 20 years and have been selling real estate here since 2006.

What initially drew you to the real estate industry? As a child, I was obsessed with all things real estate! I would grab real estate magazines whenever I had the chance and spent hours admiring the properties and picking out my favorites. I would sit in my bedroom and essentially sketch the same house over and over, making small changes each time in an effort to perfect my dream home and it never got old. My senior year of high school, I announced to my family that I was going to get my real estate license versus go to college. As you can imagine, that didn’t go over well but after graduating from Western State College you can guess what came next. I got my real estate license and never looked back!

What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career? Relationships. I’ve been very fortunate to create a successful career in real estate in Crested Butte. It’s not easy making a living in a small mountain town but my business continues to grow each year and this would never have happened without the people I’ve met along the way. I’m proud to say that most of my clients have become my friends and my family! I’m a part of their Crested Butte experience and they’re all a part of mine. My husband always jokes that we can’t go anywhere without running into a lot of people and every morning he asks me “what’s on the social calendar for today?” and it’s true. There is always someone to say hello to or an event to attend. But I’m so grateful for the relationships that I’ve formed and wouldn’t change it for the world.

What makes LIV Sotheby’s International Realty unique? I’ve been a part of the Sotheby’s International Realty family for over 10 years and attribute much of my success to the dynamic history and heritage of the brand. Crested Butte Sotheby’s recently joined forces with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty and I’m still absorbing all of the tools and opportunity that this partnership provides. The marketing capabilities, the education, and the referral opportunities are endless, and the culture of LIV SIR fits perfectly with the culture of Crested Butte. I’m excited to be part of the LIV SIR family and can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself and my clients!

What is a trend that you are keeping your eye on right now in the industry? Change. Whether we like it or not, change is a constant in our lives and our industry is advancing at a rapid pace. Crested Butte is also changing as more and more people are moving into the area to experience the mountain lifestyle. It can be challenging at times but change requires adaptation and the real estate industry demands forward-thinking in order to remain relevant. So it’s important to be balanced and accepting of change rather than fight against it.

What are you passionate about? My work, my relationships, and my marriage. Finding a balance in this career can be challenging and the flexibility of being able to work from anywhere means, well…that we work from anywhere! I got married later in life mainly because I was/am a workaholic but I love what I do. I try to focus my energy on finding ways to combine my passions in order to enjoy all of them without feeling overwhelmed. My husband is empathetic to the demands associated with my career and my relationships with my friends, family, and clients are an essential part of my success. I feel very lucky to have such a strong support system that nurtures my passions.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of the office? When you visit Crested Butte you will hear many people say that they moved here for the winter but ended up staying here for the summer and I’m no different. After spending time here as a child, in 1998 I moved to Crested Butte to enjoy a ski season with the intention of going home in the spring. But 20 years later I’m still here because THIS is my home! In the winter, I love to ski and I try to take as many “lunch breaks” in the ski area as possible. I’ve also come to love “timber-sledding” with my husband, which is essentially riding a dirt bike that’s been converted to a snowmobile. In the summer there is nothing I enjoy more than going on a hike or paddleboarding with my husband and my dog. Crested Butte is surrounded by rivers, lakes, trails, and mountains to conquer. Being outside feeds my soul and I try to enjoy it as much as possible!

What community do you live in? What do you like about it? After 20 years, I’ve lived in about every neighborhood in and around Crested Butte. Living in town provided convenience, living on the mountain provided incredible views and proximity to the ski area, living in Skyland provided easy access to the golf course and trails, and Crested Butte South, where I’m currently living, provides a wonderful local community full of friends. Every area offers something special and I don’t have a favorite. I love them all!
