Celebrating its 18th year, the Original Denver Derby Party is an event never to be missed, and this year was no different. On May 4th, almost 5,000 attendees gathered to celebrate the Derby and sip mint juleps, but most importantly to benefit the Sean Ranch Lough Foundation – a foundation that grants scholarships to high-achieving, low-income, first-generation college students from the Denver area.
“This year, we were able to present three very hard-working and deserving young individuals with a full-ride to CSU,” said Martinez. “The ability to make a difference in their lives and help them with this next chapter is a huge honor and it keeps Sean Lough’s spirit alive.”
This year the event gained extra exclusives with NBC coverage, highlighting the Original Denver Derby Party as the largest Kentucky Derby Party outside of Kentucky. For the past six years around 5,000 people have been in attendance and since the inception, 73 scholarships have been given.
Ndey Hydara Sainabou, Marwan Nassr and Celina Baros were the three recipients for 2019, presented with a four-year scholarship to Colorado State University. These scholarships provided from the Sean Ranch Lough Foundation include paid tuition, room, and board – covered at 100%.
The Original Denver Derby Party is run at zero cost, with the help of donations and volunteers. 100% of the proceeds benefit the scholarships given in the name of Sean Lough who was killed in a mountain biking accident in 2001.
