LIV Sotheby’s International Realty brokers and over 5,000 people gathered at the annual Denver Derby Party, a highly anticipated, sold-out event which was established to benefit the Sean “Ranch” Lough Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The foundation gives scholarships to high-achieving, low-income, first-generation college students from the Denver area to attend CSU, with tuition, room, and board covered at one hundred percent. This year, LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Ron Martinez and friends, sponsored a third scholarship winner, in addition to the two scholarship winners sponsored by the Sean “Ranch” Lough foundation.
“My friends and I formed a small investment club together, The Jackalopes, and we decided to individually fund a third scholarship winner, Chloee Beam, of North High School,” said Martinez. “She is bright and very deserving. She will fall under the Sean Lough Foundation umbrella to inherit many of the relationships we have at CSU to include priority in dorm selection, registration, and the like.”
Held annually on the first Saturday in May at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the Denver Derby Party draws a crowd of impeccably dressed, mint-julep imbibing revelers to celebrate the Kentucky Derby, and simultaneously invest in the education of Denver’s youth. LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Ron Martinez, one of the founding members of the Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation, has been on the Board of Directors since its existence in 2001.
Board members begin the scholarship finalist selection process in October, visiting with counselors, principals, and professors, to identify potential scholarship candidates.
This year, scholarship winners included Nastassja Wilburn of Hinkley High School and Dominique ‘Nikki’ Maes of Career Education Center, in addition to Chloee Beam of North High School, sponsored by Martinez and friends.
“I am privileged to be one of the founders of this fantastic group of people that organizes and hosts this annual event,” said LIV Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Ron Martinez. “I am always thrilled to have a fine local CSU attendee carry the Sean Lough flag, keeping the spirit of our friend alive.”
The Sean “Ranch” Lough Foundation scholarship mandates that the recipient demonstrate a good GPA, economic need, and hardy personality to match that of the charismatic Sean Lough, the person whom the scholarship was named for.
